Our guides will make you feel like a scientist for a day because on this visit to the Teide Observatory: You will receive an introduction to the importance of the sky in the Canary Islands, the telescopes of the Tenerife Observatory and the different projects of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias, the institution that manages this solar observatory. You will take part in the astrophysics workshop at the visitor centre, where our guides will explain what astrophysics is and how astrophysicists work. You will observe sunspots and solar flares through two solar telescopes that we will provide for your enjoyment. You will visit the inside of a nocturnal telescope, which you will not leave without knowing how it works and its exciting history.

There is no pick-up service for this tour. You should be at the Izaña Observatory 30 minutes before the start of the activity.

What to bring

  • For a comfortable experience, we recommend you take precautions to protect yourself from the sun’s rays.
  • We recommend the use of hats, sunglasses and sunscreen.
  • Due to the low levels of humidity that can occur at the Tenerife Observatory, take plenty of liquids (water or juices) to prevent dehydration.
  • Bring comfortable clothes and suitable footwear (avoid sandals and heels).
  • Bring some warm clothes in case the weather changes suddenly and for access to the inside of the telescopes.
